It's not a completely silly game but I will admit that it doesn't take itself too seriously and humour does play quite a part. If you are interested, I can post a mini-review of Dungeon of the Endless as a point of comparison.ĭredmor has a good sense of humour and there are lots of cool little references in the game. In contrast, I put 80+ hours into Dredmor. You mention Dungeon of the Endless, which is also a very cool game although for me it got a bit stale at around 30 hours (I might revisit it in the future however). I may have to revisit it at some point but it didn't really hook me when I first started playing. Personally, I think it's a better game than SotS: The Pit but then I didn't really get into that game. I think it's a great indie title with a ton of replay value. Lots of awesome game play here with tons of skill trees to try out and plenty of game mechanics to learn. It's a totally awesome dungeon crawling roguelike with a brilliant sense of humour and really cool style. I really like Dungeons of Dredmor and would definitely recommend it.

It's a game that expects you to have an escape plan, and an escape plan for when that one lands you in a room full of monsters. The game favors a careful, strategic approach to battle. The game as a whole is very rogue-like, particularly when it comes to combat. It's designed to be played many times, and adding new skill sets from the workshop keeps it fresh- so long as you're into it. This is a game that truly benefits from the steam workshop, too. Even just using the base game you've got a LOT of different builds to choose from. The skill system is simple but surprisingly deep with a lot of interplay between skill sets. The skills and books are references to pop culture icons, but they don't occupy a lot of your time. It's a somewhat silly game, but not overly so (in my opinion).

It gives you a lot of agency right at the beginning with many options on how to pursue your character, and then it's up to you to find or buy the right equipment. I like rogue-likes, and this one really hits the spot for me. I can only speak for myself, but I've really enjoyed it. So, guys, should I buy this one now? or should I wait 'till the next sale and think a bit more about it? how does it compare to e.g. Truth be told, I'm pretty sure I'll sooner or later overlook that last point and just get it. but DoD's skill system, although plain silly, actually looks good if it's properly implemented in terms of gameplay (which people say it is). but that was probably 'cause the lack of a map, not 'cause the jokes, now that I think of it). ones in which not taking themselves seriously is NOT their main selling point. hey, now that I think of it, none of the roguelikes I already have has linux support/can run on my non-gaming laptop.Īlso, my other "con" is that in general I tend to prefer more serious games, e.g.

(the linux support and the specs mean I can probably run it in my laptop - which is a big plus for me, since I love to play while laying in bed). and I quite like roguelikes (though I haven't played so many of them, I'm still getting into the genre). the spring/summer sale (when it could go even lower, since it's not even at historical low).īut on the other hand. I don't really think I'll be playing this one before e.g. plus a ton of other games which are also waiting to be played (yet I keep playing FTL again and again. I think I'm starting to be too cheap, since it is only 3€ for the complete edition on the steam weekly sale.īut I already have quite a few roguelikes in my backlog (SotS: The Pit, dungeon of the endless, ToME, just to name some), that are waiting to be played.
